Suffolk MYO Opens 2009-10 Season

NEW METROPOLITAN YOUTH ORCHESTRA DEBUTS AT SACHEM EAST  


On Sunday, November 15, The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York will present Suffolk orchestras and Children’s Choir of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York.  The concert, beginning at 3 PM  at the Sachem East High School Theatre, will be under the direction of Phil Preddice, Scott Zarchy and Craig Knapp.  This concert will feature the debut performances of the MYO Suffolk Concert Orchestra and the MYO Suffolk Children’s Choir.  Sachem

The Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of New York organization was founded in 1993 by music educator, John McNeur, and now has almost six hundred members in it’s six orchestras and four choirs.  Members hail from over one hundred different towns in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and New York City.  The ensembles perform at various venues throughout Long Island, always including a concert later this season at Staller Center and at Carnegie Hall each year.  The orchestra usually tours during July and has performed throughout central and eastern Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and China.  This year the Orchestra and Chorus are planning a return performance tour of Poland and Eastern Europe.  Plans for the future include additional MYO ensembles in Suffolk County.

Sachem East High School is located at 177 Granny Road, in Farmingville. Tickets will be available at the door for $15/ $5 for students and senior citizens. For more information about the program, the orchestras and choruses or the summer tour, visit the web site at www.myo.org.
