MYO OPENS 16TH SEASON

MYO has opened its sixteenth season with six orchestras and four choirs, involving almost six hundred young musicians from the New York area. The orchestra and choir program began in 1993 and has continued to grow each year to its present size.  The season marks the debut of two new ensembles, the Suffolk Concert Orchestra, led by Scott Zarchy, and the Suffolk Children's Choir.  The Children's Choir is conducted by Craig Knapp who also conducts the Nassau Treble Choir.

Highlights of the upcoming season include solo engagements by Suzanne Bona and Tomoya Aomori with the MYO Nassau Principal Orchestra, as well as the third annual MYO Concerto Competition.  MYO concerts will be held at Adelphi University PAC, Tilles Center, Staller Center, The Cathedral of the Incarnation and Carnegie Hall.  The Carnegie Hall concert on June 5 will feature the premiere of a piece for choir, children's choir, soloists and orchestra by Gerald Custer, based on the text of Walt Whitman.

Founder and Executive Director, John McNeur, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season.  "I cannot believe that MYO, which started as a little hobby, has turned into this this amazing musical institution!  We know it is affecting the lives of many young people in a very positive manner!"
