Yassas again! Today we started the day off by enjoying one last breakfast buffet at the Amalia Hotel in Nafplio. Although we were sad to be leaving, we were all excited for the next stop on our journey, Olympia.
At around 5pm, we left for souvenir shopping and dinner. Before dinner, Eleni had told us to dress up for dinner tonight. I was a little confused, partly because I hadn’t been paying full attention and partly because I hadn’t packed a single dress in my suitcase besides my concert attire. As it turned out, we were heading out for an evening of traditional Greek dancing, something I definitely hadn’t packed for! Feeling slightly underdressed in the same outfit I had arrived at the hotel in, I climbed onto the bus with no idea what to expect. Despite my worries, I couldn’t help but feel excited to experience another part of Greek culture. Our night took place at the Touris Club, a restaurant located a few minutes away from our hotel. After a buffet dinner similar to our lunch today , it was time for some Greek dancing. The night began with a performance by talented dancers dressed in beautiful traditional clothing, accompanied by lively Greek music. The dancers certainly looked the part, dressed in traditional Greek costumes that immediately caught everyone’s attention. The men wore bright white pleated skirts called fustanella, along with dark vests, red sashes, and tall black shoes. The woman wore a beautiful red-and-white dress with a matching head covering. Between the colorful outfits and their energetic dancing, it felt like we were getting a little taste of traditional Greek culture right in the middle of our dinner. They played some familiar tunes like Zorba the Greek, which we all immediately recognized. However, it quickly became clear that we wouldn’t be staying in our seats for long. I wasn’t the best dancer, but before long I had gotten the hang of the steps and found myself having a lot of fun. Even though I hadn’t gotten familiar with everyone on the tour, joining hands together in one big circle really made MYO feel like one big extended family. Trampling over each other’s feet and laughing through each dance step, I knew this night would be unforgettable. By the end of the night, we all joined together for one last, half-exhausted, “Opa!” and, just like that, our magical night came to an end.
